Ask Us A Question
Do you have a question you cannot find the answer for?
Maybe you have performed a search for the information you are looking for, had a look at the Resources, FAQs and other sections and just cannot find the answer. (Please keep in mind this website is very new and the Association's data is in the process of being moved, reviewed and updated.)
Please ask here and we shall endeavour to point you in the right direction.
A great resource for those starting out or thinking about entering the Industry is the Association's publication; Operating a Bed & Breakfast and Farmstay Business available for purchase in our online shop.
This is a very specific requirement and probably very difficult to give a specific response because being an unsupervised farmstay there may not be a lot of insurance companies that will cover them. We need to say "This is a very specific question to which the Association is not able to respond in detail. You would need to contact Insurance brokers or Companies and outline your situation. Please refer to the Industry Resources area on this Website at http://www.bbfassociation.com.au/resource-links for a list of Insurance Brokers with whom the Association has developed a working relationship."
Dear Association,
How do I go about getting my B&B listed on your website?
Is it free of charge?
Regards
My wife, daughter and I have to move out of our house next Friday (26th). We wanted to move into a farmstay for a minimum of 28 days, but more likely to be longer than that. We are awaiting a disability house in the ACT. Could you please tell me if there is either a farmstay or self-contained apartment we could use at a reduced rate due to the length of the stay.?
To list your B&B on the Association's Accommodation Directory website you would have to become a member. Listings in the online directory and in the print publication (the egg book) are free to all Full members and are just some of the benefits of belonging.
For more information and to make application, please see the Membership Section of this website.
Hi there,
long stay accommodation would be something that you would have to enquire about with the individual property owner. It is possible some members of the B&B and Farmstay Association of NSW & ACT may be able to help with this sort of interim family accommodation by arrangement. Many have Maximum length of stay published in their terms and conditions and some may be subject to local council rulings in regards to Length of Stay.
An example Local Council ruling for a local Bed and Breakfast establishment might have a clause something like:
LENGTH OF STAY
No guest shall be accommodated for more than 14 days in any 28 day period.
Self Contained Apartments and cottages may be different, so it is always best to deal directly with the owners.
You can look up members who have various accommodation in Canberra, ACT & Surrounds in the Capital Country section of the Association's Accommodation Directory.
Good luck with your quest!
Hi
I have 2 friends coming from France in mid July 2010 who, after seeing Sydney, are hoping to spend about two weeks looking around NSW, staying in farm stay type accommodation.
They want to see our wildlife (esp kangaroos) in natural habitat.
He is a chef, and would like also to try good local produce and food.
Hope this is the sort of question you answer!!
Lesley
Hi Lesley, I can try to answer that...
If you go along to the Accommodation directory website and try a few different keywords in the search facilities you can find some suggestions for you.
Try: farmstay nature or farmstay wildlife etc. Do more general searches as well, because there are some fantastic country retreats and rural properties that may not necessarily be classified as "farmstays"!
I don't really know of many areas in the NSW countryside where good local produce is unavailable, but you could try getting a short list and ringing the property owners to ensure gourmet hotspots, food trails etc. are available in their area....
Lesley, I'd suggest they include some time in and around Canberra. There are several lovely farmstays (in NSW) just out of Canberra, some of which are part of a group made up of accommodation, special eating places, and wineries in the area just north of Canberra. Your friends could then visit some of the major tourist attractions in Canberra as well. In the historic village of Bungendore, near Canberra, there is also a French master chef operating a restaurant from his home, Le Tres Bon, which could be of interest too.
A good starting point to check these out would be www.canberrabandb.net.au
As for kangaroos, there are plenty to be seen in and around Canberra.
I hope this is helpful!
Hello Lesley
We have a paddock with kangaroos in the bush.
We are 2 hrs. from Canberra airport and we have good Chefs in Young and Cootamundra for people who wish to dine out.
However, I have cooked for many a Chef using local lamb, beef and vegies, some grown here and we serve local Hilltops cool climate wines. Some guests like to dine, enjoy a drink and not have to drive.
I invite you to have a look at our website, just click on my profile picture to find a link.

Hi there,
We are looking to start an unsupervised farmstay in Country NSW and we would like to offer a small 4 wheeled vehicle for guests to use, to drive around the marked tracks and enjoy the wilderness.
What are the insurance requirements for such a farmstay with vehicle supplied? Will guests have to sign a waiver? Do you have a prefered insurance company that you would recommend for this industry? Thanks
