The following question came up in the members forum. What are your thoughts. With the huge increase in Electricity Charges what are thoughts on how to fairly pass this on to guests? Should we be looking at timers or meters on heaters & a/c units, or put our rates up? As you all know some guests just turn it all full on, and others are very thoughtful, seems a little unfair to pass on the price hike to the thoughtful ones.

Energy Costs

I'd be interested to know how we can cost-effectively fit timers onto heating/cooling units and then deal with the flak if someone wants it blasting away 24/7 and we've prevented them from so-doing.

Our A/c units have their own timers which I've set it to go off at 1am to try and prevent people having it blasting away all night - some figure out how to change it of course but I don't think you can stop it from working completely - after all they're paying for a/c.

As for price increases ... we're pretty much as high as we can go and still stay in business in the current economic climate - so other things have had to go .. no more fresh flowers in the rooms, no more choccy on pillow, port is no longer "reserve" etc. etc. and the rest of the difference we're just going to have to "wear".

If anyone has any other ideas I'd love to hear them.
