On behalf of all our members, the Board of BBFNSW-ACT extends its sincere condolences and sympathy to the people who have been so terribly affected by the current bushfires in Victoria.

In particular, our thoughts are with the Bed & Breakfast, Farmstay and other hosted accommodation providers in the affected areas.

Tourists Urged To Return

Don't stop visiting, plead Black Saturday survivors
Full Story: The Australian
"...Victorian Tourism Minister Tim Holding echoed the call for citizens to support resorts in areas such as the Yarra Valley to the north of Melbourne and Daylesford to the west, where communities are heavily dependent on the economic multiplier of day trippers and tourist traffic.
Revenue is down by up to 90per cent for operators who were untouched by flames, but now face ruin from another threat: fear itself..."
------
There are many areas of Victoria that are not affected by the bush fires and many tourism and accommodation operators are open for business.
Visitors are encouraged to continue with their travel plans in an informed manner and not to cancel. Information booklets are available from all Visitor Information Centres: Travelling in the Great Outdoors: Bushfire Safety Tips
Tourism Victoria has the latest details for visitors and the industry on their website at www.tourism.vic.gov.au

That's fantastic news Clare -

That's fantastic news Clare - I hope that some of the people who are currently trying to rebuild will get a break from the dismal living conditions many are under as winter sets in...I don't know what sort of coverage gets out Nationaly but the sight of families with little children living in make-shift accommodation (caravans and such) on their burnt out properties as snow falls and delays progress is very sad.

Here is a link to a news item that tells more...
